MINI Cooper Car Safety Reviews

While the MINI lineup isn’t the most diverse on the market, with only a few vehicles in its repertoire, that’s actually one of the things that MINI drivers in the Queens, Manhattan, and Bronx areas like about the vehicle. It’s also a manufacturer that focuses on performance, style, drive and above all, safety, then with a thousand different variants. While other vehicle manufacturers want to make accidents less severe, MINI wants to help you avoid them entirely.

This has taken many years of work on the part of the manufacturer, but it’s paid off. The new 2017 MINI Cooper has earned status as a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, largely due to its advanced Front Car Prevention safety system. Let’s look at the latest MINI Cooper safety ratings, the technology behind them, and learn how these great and fun cars can keep you safe on your journey.

The MINI Cooper includes all of the best safety features you want in a vehicle. These include all the expected things like anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, front, side, overhead, and knee airbags, and seatbelt pre-tensioners as well as a security system to protect against theft.

It also includes a range of safety features designed to avoid accidents altogether. These include automatic braking assist, automatic headlights, daytime running lights, night vision, rollover protection, lane departure warning and mitigation, blind spot monitoring, integrated turn signal mirrors, Heads-Up Display, adaptive cruise control and more.

When You Are in an Accident

When you are in an accident, which can happen no matter how many safety features you have, MINI wants to protect you as much as possible. The Cooper has a crash sensor which automatically turns on interior and hazard lights and unlocks your doors when you’re in a crash. It also features a breakaway engine which diverts energy from the cabin.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The IIHS, or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, gave the MINI Cooper a Top Safety Pick+ rating. This means that it scored the institute’s top GOOD rating in all the major tests. These include moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side impact, rear crash protection, and roof strength testing. That allows the MINI to join a pretty elite group.

NHTSA Mini Cooper Safety Ratings

The NHTSA, or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is the other most well-known automotive safety testing organization out there. This particular organization gives vehicles four ratings: one for overall protection, one for frontal crash, one for side crash and one for rollover protection.

In every one of these areas, the MINI Cooper rated four stars, a pretty outstanding rating that places it near the head of the pack for safety. Taken together, tests from these two organizations give a very thorough picture of the safety available in the new MINI Cooper, and it’s solid, to say the least.
